Helping people can be very difficult at times. Many are not looking to receive what they need, but what they want. Christ does expect His Church to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, provide shelter to the homeless, visit the sick and go to those that are imprisoned. By the way, drugs, alcohol, cars, cell phones and tv cable are not on the list.
God does not expect each individual to carry the weight of others needs by themselves. This is evident in the story of the Good Samaritan. The Samaritan medicated the wounds of the injured man and put him on his own beast but then left him in the care of an inn keeper so he could go on about the business of his life. Jesus would never send any of his disciples to do the work of ministry alone.
The Church is a body made up of many parts so that we will work together to fulfill the mission of Christ in the earth. In order to be effective we must be assembled together. The bicycle serves little purpose until it is removed from the box and assembled. If we, the members of God’s Church, are to make an impact on the world we must do it together.
Matthew 25:35-36 For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’
Hebrews 10:24-25 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
